Inner City Ski Club

Winter Park 2010

From the Desk of the President

Hello, and Happy New Year!

I am Elaine Walls, the new president of the Inner City Ski Club.  Our previous president and founding member Ray S. Robinson, passed in September 2012, and our members, family and friends have mourned his passing.  Over the last few months, the executive board has pushed through planning for the current season, and we are excited to provide you with some great opportunities to join us in the sport that Ray so enthusiastically enjoyed.

The ICSC is the oldest African American ski club in Ohio. Be sure to periodically check out our website or call our club hotline for event updates.  Also, you can friend us on Facebook - Inner City Ski Club.

Our 40th Annual Learn to Ski & Snowboard Venture will take place on Saturday, January 26 at Alpine Valley, 10620 Mayfield Road, Chesterland, OH.  This is an excellent and fun-filled opportunity to join others interested in learning the sport.  Packages include the lift ticket, lesson and equipment rental.
Details and applications on the event can be reviewed and downloaded by clicking the 2014 Ski Venture Flyer, the 2014 Ski Venture Application. Several club members will be available to assist during the outing and will work with you following your lesson.  Many individuals became skiers and boarders after attending past ventures.  I hope you will sign up and join us on January 26.

This season's ski trips are listed in the featured events on this site.  Contact the Estelle Garner, trip chairperson, if you are interested in attending any of the season's ski / snowboard outings.

Our club’s purpose and goals coincide with those of the National Brotherhood of Skiers, a non-profit ski organization, of which we are a Charter Member Club, and whose focus is to introduce and expose the African American community to the winter sports of skiing and snow boarding, with a special emphasis on youth.  The NBS Olympic Fund Committee’s express purpose is to find youth with an interest in skiing and/or snow boarding; to introduce programs and procedures on a local, regional and national level, and give support and financial assistance in their training and skills development, with emphasis on racing,. The NBS Olympic Committee’s ultimate goal is placing an African American on the United States of America Winter Olympic Ski Teams, a reality in the making.

We will miss Ray's enthusiasm for the sport, and with the continued commitment and diligence of the club members, we will continue being the ski family that began 42 years ago and still be skiing in the years to come!

Thanks again for your interest in the club.  We invite and encourage you to join us at any of our trips, events or activities, and we look forward to meeting you soon.  Have a prosperous New Year, and a great fun-filled Winter Season.

Happy Skiing,

Elaine Walls
