Hi there, I’m Jake. Six years ago, I moved from New England to the Midwest. Alongside growing accustomed to brutally cold winters, learning what a “hotdish” entails, and grappling with lake culture, I had to deal with one large, looming issue: the lack of ski opportunities. In some places in the Midwest, this isn’t really a problem. Michigan, for example, has more than twenty ski resorts. However, living in a big city is a massive hindrance to ski opportunities, even if you can see the hills from your apartment.

Over the past few years, I’ve found ways to maintain some semblance of a ski habit while living in a big city. This site is meant to host the resources I’ve curated and gathered—I know I’m not the only one in this position, and I know firsthand how difficult a transition like this can be. I encourage you to explore my site to look for tips and strategies to maintain a healthy ski habit, no matter what big city landscape you call home. At the same time, I’m always looking to learn new things, and I’d love to hear your own strategies for staying in the swings of things when it comes to alpine winter sports.
